A Fish Story

A few weeks ago I was in a children's store searching for something cutesy to hang on our nursery walls when I came across some super-cute, wooden fish.  They were exactly what I was looking for!  Not only were they just plain cute, but Jeff loves to go fishing and I'm sure that our little guy will be out there with daddy someday, too.  (this also paves the way for a fish bowl at some point - fun!!)  The wooden fish were expensive though and the store said it would take 4-6 weeks to order them.  Boo.

Sooo - what's a girl to do?  I called my dad, of course.  For those of you that don't know him personally, just imagine Bob Villa smoking a pipe and you've pretty much nailed him.  As the ultimate craftsman/handyman, I'm 100% convinced that he could build or fix anything.  Anyway, after a quick discussion and a few cell phone pictures later, he was ready to start on the project!  In just two days, the sawdust cleared and the fish were complete - along with handfuls of wooden bubbles.  (thanks, Dad!)

My mom delivered the school of wooden fish last week and together we selected paint and glitter to give them some life.  Thank goodness she was here too, because the painting process took a lot longer than anyone had expected!  They're actually still in need of some finishing touches, but I should hopefully have it all wrapped up this week.

Here are some in-progress pictures.  The project has taken over our dining room table for over a week...
This guy is in the process of getting his stripes!
Lots of brushes and air bubbles...
Nearly complete!  (don't worry - the spotted ones DO have heads)

I'll post pictures of the finished product, soon!  Hopefully we'll have them hanging on the wall by the weekend. :)  A big thanks again to my parents for helping me with this project!!  XOXO
