Jeffrey got to experience his very first hotel a few weeks ago when we traveled to Chicago to spend some time with the Savage family. The room had a great view over Lake Michigan and Navy Pier, and Jeffrey even got his very own crib. Traveling with an infant isn't exactly easy however. Here are a few of the hurdles we encountered...
1. With no microwave in the room, how do you warm up homemade, FROZEN baby food? Trust me, with a hungry, screaming baby, you figure something out pretty quickly. Our solution? We floated a drinking glass full of baby food inside of an ice bucket that contained steaming hot water. Once the lid was on for 5-10 minutes, Jeffrey was ready to enjoy a warm meal.
2. Does a 7:30pm baby bedtime mean that mommy and daddy have to sit in a dark, silent hotel room while baby sleeps? No! We brought our video monitor along, which fortunately transmitted to the neighboring room where Jeff's parents were staying. We were able to keep an eye on Jeffrey and stay up past eight o'clock! Hooray!
Jeffrey also got to take a bath for the first time in the 'big boy' bathtub, since bringing his infant tub to Chicago seemed a little extreme. We sat him on a towel in the tub to minimize any slipping and it worked out great!
Although it wasn't easy, it sure was fun. :) We had a great time and I think we're much better prepared to travel again! I'll post some pictures from Chicago soon.
In the meantime, here are a few pictures of our little guy enjoying the hotel room. The big windows provided great light for my photos.
