Jeff and I went to my 40 week appointment yesterday, and it turns out (much to our surprise!), that our snug little bug hasn't really made any progression. Things are starting to soften and thin, but there isn't any notable dilation yet. Now according to our doctor, 92% of women have delivered by the time they reach their 7th day past due (that would be Monday, Sept. 12th for me). So statistically speaking, I should be having this baby this weekend. Cross your fingers! I'm feeling ready.
However with my luck, I will probably be in that lonely 8% of women who do not give birth within 7 days of their due date. If and when that happens, Dr. Fitzgerald threw out the option of being induced.
Let me first say that I'm not a huge proponent of being induced, as I would much rather let our little boy decide when he is ready to be born. However, things are becoming rather uncomfortable and it's starting to feel like I could be pregnant forever! Plus, let's be honest here - an induction eliminates the possibility of my water breaking while I'm grocery shopping or standing in line at the bank. (a catastrophically embarrassing moment, to say the least!)
So, although I would prefer to go into labor naturally this weekend, we are also now scheduled for an induction next week on Wednesday, Sept. 14th. I guess we'll just have to wait and see which happens first! Regardless, I'm excited to know that this pregnancy is nearly over and that we'll get to meet our sweet baby boy very, very soon.
